Weighted Keys Explained! Roland GO:KEYS 3 vs FP-10
In this video, Ted and Roland break down the differences between the weighted Roland FP-10 and the unweighted Roland GO:KEYS, explaining what you get with each instrument. While the weighted FP-10 does not offer as many built-in sounds as the GO:KEYS, it features fully weighted keys that make it an excellent choice for classical piano training and at-home practice.
On the other hand, the GO:KEYS offers a wide variety of sounds and effects. It also includes a built-in drum machine and arranger section, allowing users to create and layer their own music with ease.
Portability is another major difference between the two. The GO:KEYS is lightweight and battery-powered, making it easy to take anywhere without worrying about a power outlet. In contrast, the FP-10 is more stationary. Due to its size and weight, it is not designed for casual transport, such as taking it to the beach or a party, as shown in the video.
Because the GO:KEYS is unweighted, it feels more like a synthesizer than a traditional piano when playing. The FP-10, however, provides a more authentic grand piano feel thanks to its proprietary Roland PHA-4 action.
Lastly, the FP-10 includes all the essential features needed for focused piano practice, such as working on scales, hand positioning, and technique across a full 88-key keyboard. While the GO:KEYS is not intended to function as a traditional piano, it excels as a creative instrument, offering quick access to lead lines, bass lines, and sound-building tools commonly found in synthesizers.
