Martin Super HD28 vs Standard HD28 | Does Size Matter?
Martin Super HD28 vs Standard HD28 | Does Size Matter?
In this video, we clarify some of the information we initially got wrong about the new Martin 2026 Super HD28 and Standard HD28 guitars.
One of the main issues we faced was that the Super HD28 appears larger and deeper than standard Martin guitars. Even when the Super HD28 is placed next to the Standard HD28, the Super still looks noticeably bigger.
The Super HD28 features a standard dreadnought depth, but it is longer and wider than typical models, increasing the internal volume by approximately 20%.
We initially guessed that this larger size might affect the guitar’s sound because the manufacturer’s website does not provide detailed specifications, such as exact measurements. Changes in the body length and width can alter the position of the bridge relative to the sound hole, which can impact the tonal characteristics. One advantage, however, is that the guitar’s depth remains standard despite the increased width.
By expanding the size of the body and top, the Super HD28 is able to produce a richer bass response, giving it a fuller, more resonant sound. The Super also accommodates finger picking really well with its low end response demonstrated by Chris with a back to back sound comparison of the two guitars.
